This is an area in the city of Cape Town, roughly the size of St Kilda that was totally bull dozed during the apartheid era of the 70's. The blacks and colored people living in the area were told to leave immediately and their homes were bulldozed along with shops, schools, churches and all. Ex residents or living relatives were recently offered their land back in a gesture of peace from the government, but they so far have all opted for financial compensation instead as they refuse to return to the area and others also refuse to inhabit it. Instead it has become a vacant memorial to apartheid.
